The telecom regulator has withdrawn the cap on speed of uploading contents on the Internet this year to track down illegal use of voice over internet protocol (VoIP).
A BTRC official said the regulator directed the international internet gateways (IIG) to slash the upload speed by 75 percent on May 15 this year. Read the rest of this entry »

Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) will intensify its ongoing drive against illegal VOIP call termination, as the surreptitious business is still reportedly rampant.
Brig. Gen. (Rtd) Zia Ahmed, the newly appointed BTRC chairman, told a presentation meeting of the Telecom Infrastructure Operators of Bangladesh (TIOB) recently that BTRC would make all-out effort to stop illegal VOIP. Read the rest of this entry »

The government is losing around Tk 1208.88 crore revenue per year due to international call termination through illegal VoIP.
The BTRC is currently working on ways to reduce international call termination through illegal VoIP. According to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), every day some three crore international calls are entering. Of the calls, Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) terminates some 1.40 crore calls and the rest 1.60 crore calls are dealt by the VoIP traders. Read the rest of this entry »
